Product Description
PLEASE READ THIS! There is no tool for a sharpener to measure to ensure that a FBV sharpening is completely in a piece of steel. No worry, we've been doing FBVs longer than anyone else in the U.S., and we have a pretty good idea how many passes on our machine it takes to do a FBV sharpening. However, on the other hand, we don't like to do excessive passes because that wastes your steel and reduces the life of the runners. If you are sending in steel for sharpening and they already the FBV you are ordering in the steel, you don't have to do anything. If you are sending in steel that has something other than the FBV you are ordering, please use the Comment section on the checkout page to let us know something different is in there. Saying something like, "This set does not currently have a FBV sharpening" will suffice. When you let us know, we will then do extra passes to ensure the FBV gets established. If you don't let us know, in rare cases, it's possible your FBV won't come out correctly. We don't want that to happen so be sure to let us know in the comments when you order. Thank you.
Note: A normal sharpening does not include removal of deep nicks, chips or gouges. Extra fees may apply. We inspect each blade, if we think they are OK to skate on with no performance problems, we'll do a normal sharpening and ship them back to you. If you know your blades are in bad shape, you can select the "Remove Deep Nicks and Gouges" option.
Note: If you are sending in brand new out of the box steel that has never been sharpened before, the cost to sharpen new steel is not $7.75 It is $23.25, so you must order 3 FBV sharpenings, we do not have another way to order a first time FBV sharpening on new steel on this website.
Note: We know the webstore allows you to select "Blade Matching" with this regular sharpening but Blade Matching is only available with a custom radius. Blade Matching destroys a radius so a radius has to be done after doing the matching.

FBV - full-on best value
this is a great cut. Admittedly, I got it along with a custom radius, but I have better maneuverability, better turning and edge control and better speed.

Great sharpen, Great service
I have had several FBV sharpening from No Icing over the last year, and all have some out great. I completed the form on the website for a custom profile, and Bob made the suggestion for the FBV. I decided that It would be worth a try, and I haven't looked back. From the moment that I touched the Ice, I could feel the extra smoothness and glide. just to be sure, I swapped skates back to a set with standard hollows and I could tell a difference, it almost felt like something was dragging the ice. The only other change has been with cornering and stopping, It took a skate or too to get used to the new edges, they tend to be more on and off, versus the gradual feather you can get with traditional hollows. I started with FBV 100/50, but with changing ice conditions here in the south, I am currently on 100/75 for more bite. This really helps with getting a lot of grip for quick starts. Overall I'm very pleased with the results, not only with the FBV, but with the consistency of the sharpeings.

No comparison to traditional sharpening
FBV is fantastic! I go faster, glide farther, and turn sharper. And the edge holds as long as regular sharpenings. Get an extra set of steels and you can always have super edges.

FBV - best sharpening since the inventions of skates
NoIcing has been doing my FBV sharpening basically since they started offering it. I have tried other sharpeners in the West Coast area, but I returned to NoIcing. I've also went back to traditional sharpening to see if there was a real difference, or was it my mind saying it was because I read how great FBV is. For me, FBV is it. There was a huge difference in I how I skated. One caveat : it does take a few skates to get used to sharpening style. After you get used to it, it's 'da bomb!'

Consistent Sharpen Every Time
There is a reason I send my blades across the country to be profiled and sharpened. It is because they come back consistently sharpened to my specifications and work great the first time I step on the ice.

FBV sharpening
Best skate sharpen ever. I send in multiple sets of steel each time. I've tried FBV sharpens at my local skate shop, but no good. No-Icing is the only way to go! Whatever they're doing, they get it right time and time again. I've been a customer for several years.

Great product!!!
I purchased step-steel runners for my 16 year old son, added a custom radius and FBV. He has been skating on them for about 8 months. He absolutely loves the turning radius, and never blows edges. He is on the ice 4-5 days/wk. His edges last brobably 3 times longer than regular radius cut on his stock runners. Once you get past the initial sticker shock they are awesome. We live in Arizona, the turn around time for sharpening is about 5 days. So buy 2 sets. Pretty impressive. FBV with performance steel is the way to go.

Finally - the edge I've always wanted
Used a 3/8 hollows cut for a while and was never getting the "bite" I was looking for. I play on ice that is pretty hard, even in the summer. The 3/8" FBV cut gives me sharp edges, no slipouts, without being too tacky.

fbv, or fantastically brilliant v
I can only speak to having this cut in combination with a custom radius, I can not speak about this cut in isolation. However, together they work brilliantly (for me), with greatly improved speed and maneuverability.
