Custom Combination Radius on steel you are purchasing today

I'm an intermediate skater playing Men's B league, and some A league as a sub. I took 10 years off hockey and after a summer league season on new skates I was looking for a way to replicate the feel of my old bauer vapor skates with my new CCM Jetspeeds. Bob recommended a 8/13 radius with a 9/16 FBV and medium forward pitch. The difference was unreal. Not only did the pitch replicate the feel of the vapors but the turning and stability was great. Probably the best of all was the glide I got from my skates now, it was such a difference that a few of my teammates commented on the increased speed. As a funny side note, I got my first hatty in 10 years last night with my new blades. Ill definitely be ordering a second set of steel and use the mail in sharpening service from now on.

I have been playing ice hockey for almost a year now. On my regular sharpened factory 9' radius I would say I was confident with my skating. After Bob suggested I try a combination radius with a FBV and a medium pitch forward, I couldn't be happier. My acceleration is quicker, my turning has become sharper and my stopping is quicker. After never having a consistent sharpening and going onto the ice and having to come off after the first stride, I found skaterescueservice.com . I never heard of "combo radius " or was ever given a choice as to a hollow. No icing has been a game changer for me. It has given me a more efficient stride and I now have the confidence to go hard into a turn without my skates washing out. We found ourselves without a backup set of edges after one of a brand new (literally, failed with only the initial sharpening and weekend of games)set of Bauer LS2 Edges cracked. I mentioned we were without spares for a big weekend and the SRS gang got my new steel (purchased from the site, dressed with my custom-combo radius / FVB setup) out that same day. I talked to Bob over email, described what I was looking for and he recommended 8'/13' combo with fbv 100/50. I ordered new step runners. It took an extra week to arrive because they didn't have my size in stock. I was a bit worried about adjustment time, but there was no adjustment time. I stepped on the ice and the setup just worked. It was exactly what I was looking for, quicker starts and easy direction changes while offering tons of stability and speed. Fbv was nice, didn't feel slippery or anything, just stable, haven't lost an edge yet. I am coming off of getting 1/2" roh sharpen and always feels just a touch too sharp the first time out, so 100/50 felt right on the money, not too sharp, just right, comfortable. Very pleasant experience, everyone was really polite, Bob had great suggestions for what to try. I'll definitely do this again.

Sharpening felt great from the first stride. While I am still getting walked by kids more than half my age, I feel more mobile and less pylon like on D.

A combination radius made with your recommendations made a huge difference in my sons skating. He now has 2 sets of steel and is feeling out 2 different FBV sharpening cuts to fine tune his style with the blades. It took a few practices to get used to but the skates being new also contributed to that time. He is faster and maneuvers aggressively as a defenseman. My son plays AA hockey and has been looking for that extra edge on the ice(no pun intended) and with combination that was put on his blades made a big difference!

I was out of hockey for about 8 years, during which I had a bad ankle dislocation/break that required surgery. Now I can only bend that ankle forward about 60% of what the other will do. I recently decided to come back to the game but my skating suffers a lot due to this lack of motion. I had always skated on a "forward rocker" in the past but had never used a combo radius. After getting recommendations from No Icing about what I should do I proceeded to get an 8/12' Medium Forward radius put on Step Steel runners and am very very happy with the result. It has made my skating absolutely the best it can be at this point and I will continue to use and recommend No Icing in the future.
