Order this only if you are sending in black coated steel that has never been sharpened by anyone before. All new skates and new replacement steel comes unsharpened. The first sharpening on DLC coated runners takes much extra labor and wear on our equipment to sharpen them the first time. This surcharge is for that. You do not need to order this if you are purchasing steel from us or if your DLC runners have been sharpened and the coating on the bottom is removed..
Examples of black coated steel are the Bauer LS5, Tydan, Massive, BladeTech and Blackedge brands black versions. There may be others, so basically if what you are sending in has DLC black coating on the bottom, you need to add this to your cart. STEP blacksteel is not coated on the bottom so you do not need to order this for those runners, nor for CCM black runners, those are not DLC coated. So you would order the regular "Radius on Unsharpened Steel" for those.
The way to order this for your steel is to put one "I'm sending Sharpened Steel" Radius in your cart, and one of this service.. Don't select the Unsharpened steel radius option, that is for regular stainless runners.
