The name "quint" is derived from the Latin quinque-, meaning five, and for this radius it refers to the five functions that a Quint provides - Speed, Acceleration, Agility, Balance and Power. A QUINT radius is a combination radius similar to our regular Quad combinations, however in addition to four properly sized fine-tuned radius, we've strategically placed a small flat gliding surface inside the Quad sequence to gain even more speed. Why did we do this, well, the majority of our customers are always asking for more speed. But in order to get more speed, the radius have to be made larger and what that does is it can make the blades feel like skis. So to prevent that awkward feeling, we designed the Quint radius with a small gliding surface that will add more speed but which also has shorter radius on each side to eliminate that flat feel and maintaining maneuverability and control. Right now we offer 3 Quints, the Quint Major (for size runners 254mm and up, the Quint Minor for size 247mm and smaller, and the QUINTA, a special Quint for girls and women which compensates for the low center of balance (at hips) that women have. |

My son is a 14U AA defenseman, who skated on a Quad-8 last season, which he loved. He moved up to an adult skate this season, so I asked Bob if he should stay with the Quad-8 or try something else. Bob suggested the Quint Major. My son had the chance to skate the new profile once, and then had a showcase with one practice and three games. Watching him, I could tell that his maneuverability was just as good as what he had had last season, but the place the Quint stood out was with speed. He's a deep-knee bend, long stride skater naturally, and I could see him out-power his competition. He felt that he had a lot more speed as well. He said that his maneuverability was great, and didn't have any problem getting used to the new rocker while skating forward. However, his backward skating felt "different. Not bad, it just will take some getting used to." Whereas the Quad-8 took 5 minutes to fall in love with, the Quint Major just took a couple of ice sessions to get used to. After the showcase, I asked him if he wanted to go back to the Quad, or stick with the Quint, and he said he definitely wanted to stick with the Quint, so I'm sending in his second set of runners today.
