A normal sharpening touches up the edges and involves grinding less than the thickness of a sheet of paper off your runners. This does NOT remove deep nicks and chip or gouges, which can be 1/8-3/16" or more up the blades side. If your blades are in extremely bad shape that will involve much more grinding to remove severe damage, then select this option. Best to send us a picture in advance for review.
Keep in mind all nicks do NOT have to be removed. This is a wives/coach's tale. A blade can have a hundred small nicks and chips on it and it will still perform like a blade with no nicks. Removing them is unnecessary so we don't recommend you select this option unless we tell you your blades need extra work. When you order just a regular sharpening, be assured we won't send a blade back we think will cause problems on the ice.
We understand some people are OCD and want them all removed, even though it's unnecessary. Goalies who slam blades into the posts will also get deep nicks. We'll do the extra work, but it's going to cost you more. Also keep in mind that in many cases the radius will be altered because removing a deep nick involves heavy cross-grinding. So, if you demand nicks removed, and your blades feel weird afterwards, do not complain to us.
